Hey guys, is it normal for bloods to hang out for days on their cool end? His hot spot is around 85-86 with a gradient to about 70 on the other side. Humidity is always above 65% at least. Am i doing something wrong or is this typical?

My blood girl is almost always in the middle or on the cool end. She only ever spends time on the warm end for a few days after she eats. STPs generally don't like to be too warm.

My boy stays on the cool side pretty much all the time. He eats and sheds fine. Of course bloods don’t poop as regularly as other snakes. I would not worry too much.I think STPs in general don’t require as much heat as say ball pythons etc.

Does anyone know if you cross breed a blood and ball python would the genetic morph traits carry over?

Absolutely! Take a peek at the combo section of the Hybrid Ball Python Morphpedia article for some other species hybrids, but I see no reason why the same would not be true with Bloods.

Hey guys, i just purchased a baby blood python about a month ago and ive noticed that it has a habit of looking up a lot. Almost going upside down at times. This is my first blood python and im not sure if its normal. I didnt notice it before i purchased it. My spider ball python does this but i know its because of the spider gene so im worried it might have some issues i cant identify on my own. Would love any advice i can get, thanks!

The only problematic genes in bloods is the super form of batik, usually has spinal kinking issues, very few have survived or thrived. Second would be the super form of wrought-iron, they're born with deformed skull structures and don't survive long. As far as yours, its a normal blood (python brongersmai). Only cases of neurological issues ive ever seen was caused by them getting to hot (90°+ ) for extended periods of time. Anything other than that would be viral as far as ive seen.

I personally do not own blood pythons so I might not be correct with this or know if this is normal with them but this behavior could be something called "stargazing"... which is a telltale sign of neurological or nerve issues. To my knowledge there isn't much that can be done other than make sure the snake is in a safe enclosure where it cannot fall or get stuck and injure itself and to make sure it eats regularly. In severe cases this can impede quality of life but if the python can eat, drink and shed normally it can live pretty close to a normal life. I wish you the best with your snake 🙏

This was my first blood python in 1998, her name was Persephone and I got her as a baby from NERD back when the big reptile expo was in Orlando, FL. She was awesome, but I had to sell her when I moved for college :/ She was super chill and had no aggression at all.
