Got some herping time on Tuesday evening. Right on the edge of the Badlands SD. After picking A picking a spot, I found a Prairie rattler 10 steps from the truck, and another after 30 minutes of searching

Grumpy boy. Sometimes when feeding him, he strikes the prey and coils it, then releases the bite but not the coils. So i have to get him to unwrap to get the prey item back and get him to strike again. He finally ate, but was pissed at me afterwards.

My bull snakes will do that, but I think they are protecting their dinner from me. If I leave them alone for a while they will usually eat it on their own.

Mine will strike and wrap and just hold em for an hour. They will always eat though. He may be thinking he needs to protect his food from being taken, and thats why hes releasing. I recommend just letting him be.
