🚨Never take a box turtle from the wild! Never touch a box turtle in the wild, except to help it cross a road. Gently pick up the turtle, and move it to the side of the road that it was facing. 🚨
I very intentionally haven't been sharing my box turtles online. I don't want people to see them on my page and get one for themselves without being fully aware of the amount of care they require, or even worse, take one from the wild.
Part of the reason I have these turtles, though, is for education, and so I think I will take the risk and begin sharing them. I'm hoping that sharing my experience with these animals will help people better understand how important box turtles are, and why conservation of their natural environments is important.

I am happy to share that I was accepted into my first choice of MFA programs! I'm thinking I may defer a few years and get my two-year Master's certificate in scientific illustration first, and then transfer those credits to a larger MFA where I can focus on more of my personal work. All that aside, as a celebration and as a way to start getting rid of all the drawings I have overflowing my house, I'm thinking of including portraits of the animals people buy from me in their shipments. What do y'all think of this? Would you like to receive a portrait of your new pet, or is that too much 😅 I don't want to get too involved, but the drawings like the one attached here takes me maybe 20 minutes, and would give me something to do over the winter while work slows down and I'm waiting for my MFA program to start. Let me know your thoughts!
Ginkgo's Exotics is named after a very special lizard. Ginkgo was the first pet that my partner and I got once we were out of college. I had kept reptiles all growing up, but took a small break during college.
It only seemed right to name our reptile business after Ginkgo - and she's a great mascot. We plan on taking her along to some expos in the future to meet people!
